PPGT-TB series is a process technology to re-refining of waste/used lubricating oils to near virgin API Group I base oils.

Re-refining is the term used to describe use of PPGT-TB technology to extract the lubricating base oil from waste lubricants. Water, fuel oil, additives and sludge are separated from the base oil.

PPGT-TB technology for re-refining is based on vacuum distillation (using Wiped Film Evaporation). This is the most successful commercial method of re-refining. What’s more, PPGT’s complete process treats used oil to produce base oil, which meets API Group I specifications.


PurePath has designed the re-refining technologies for used lubricating oil to produce near virgin quality base oil ranging from SN80 to SN500 by using different technologies such as full continuous distillation, wiped film evaporation, and short path distillation. In the meanwhile, we have also developed a base oil solvent extraction plant to help you get rid of the annoying clay refining system and allow you to refine the base oil to meet API group 1+ standards.

There are three major heating methods which are commonly used in waste oil refineries. Electrical heating, Boiler and Furnace. Electrical heater is more often to be used in small scale of waste oil refinieries. The advantage of electrical heater is that it does have a wide range of heating temperature and it is an economic solution for using in small scale refineries. 

On another hand, Hot oil boiler can be used in either of medium to large scale of waste oil refineries. Heating by boilel in heat exchangers are a very common way of heating in petrochemical industry. It is safe, efficient and controllable. However, most of hot oil boilers have a limit of heating tempeature which is below 380-350℃. 

The furnace are usually used in large scale of waste oil refineries. It also has a wide range of heating temperature and there’s no requirement for thermal oil consumption comparing with hot oil boiler. However the furnace is usally in 18-20 meters tall.

Those waste are generally in 4 categories: gas, oily water, oil sludge and used adsorbents.The gas can be purified before emission or to be burned in a furnace;The oil sludge can be used for burning or as raw material for making bitumen; the oily water has to be purified by particular facilities or handed to the professional recycler; the used adsorbent can be used for burning or handed to the professional recycler.

The typical yield of waste oil refinery will be as following: 75% of base oil; 5% of water & light ends; 7% of light gas oil; 13% of oil sludge;

The quality of base oil is able to meet API group 1 and 1+ standards which could be as good as the virgin base oil after PurePath unique refining process. Those base oil can be either sold directly or to be further blended with additives for making new engine oil.
